Andrea Exter

Andrea ExterAndrea’s had her nose in a magazine since she was able to read—Time, Fast Company, Texas Monthly, Vanity Fair—always excited to get the next issue! So, it was an obvious choice when she decided to pursue journalism as a career. With a passion for design and the written word, she left her hometown of Lubbock to be a Longhorn. Andrea graduated with a degree in journalism from UT Austin in 2001. With a newfound love for Austin, she accepted a position with O’Connell Robertson, a local architecture firm. There, she marketed the firm to prospective clients, wrote business proposals and designed firm marketing collateral. After five years, the opportunity to go back to her roots in journalism serendipitously married her experience in the architecture industry. Andrea left the firm in 2006 for the position of associate publisher at the Texas Society of Architects. There she gained a strong foundation in project management and publishing. Directing the production of the Society’s award-winning publication, Texas Architect, she also managed staff, schedules, marketing, editorial and advertising content, budgets, print production, circulation and distribution as well as corresponding website and social media content.

Andrea efficiently manages all the working parts of the publication process applying her background in design to elevate her clients’ image. She specializes in providing collaborative project management, promoting clients by publishing print and digital magazines, newsletters and specialized publications.

Her more than 20 years of experience in Austin includes serving eight years on the board of Women Communicators of Austin (WCA). In 2008, Andrea co-chaired the organization’s first-ever Get Smart professional development conference, now a premier event for the group. Andrea served again for WCA's Get Smart in 2011 as the event's public relations chair and then as the Vice President of Programs in 2013. In 2019, she took on the president-elect role and is currently serving as WCA's 2020-2021 president.

Andrea cofounded Monarch Media in 2011 and brings expertise in publishing, editorial strategy, writing, editing, graphic design, magazine and publication production and management for both print and digital, as well as marketing, public relations and distribution strategy.
